Dan grew up in Center City, Minnesota, about an hour north of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). He attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Dan graduated with Bachelor’s in Environmental Science in 2011 and Master’s of Architecture in 2012.
He spent 1.5 years at Ubl Design group in Bismark, ND, doing civic work (Bismark event and trade show center), some mixed-use low-income housing and homeless shelter renovation work. Dan then spent 6.5 years at RNL Design/Stantec (Acquired by Stantec 2017) in Denver, CO where he worked on transit maintenance buildings (Utah Transit Authority), large corporate campus work (Kiewit Regional Headquarters), civic/municipal work, (Denver water operations complex redevelopment). He then spent 1 year at Anderson Hallas Architects in Golden, CO where he worked on grade school renovations and expansions. Overall, he has worked on both large- and small-scale projects. He cites the Denver Water project as being the biggest highlight of his career. It spanned about 5 years w/ 9 different buildings. Almost 2 solid years of nothing but construction administration. A first of its kind in the state w/ LEED Platinum, One Water, and a Wastewater recycling system.) He could talk about that project for days.
He started at SHM Architects in May 2022. He has always been driven by great ideas, a sense of thoughtful “place”, and the efficiency of practical, creative solutions. Dan has always wanted to someday get into custom home design and SHM felt like the perfect fit.
Outside of work, he enjoys Tending Chickens, Gardening, Landscaping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping.
