Sofija is a born and raised Colorado girl. Growing up in the foothills of Boulder, she was strapped to skis at the age of 1 and mountain biking by age 5. Her family would split their time between the front range and Crested Butte, Colorado, where she began to recognize the importance of community and how deeply special the place was. The need for affordable housing in the small valley inspired her to pursue studies in architecture at the University of Colorado Boulder. The aspects of creative problem solving and how architecture directly impacts people, whether they like it or not, were driving factors in her degree and career decisions. In 2022, Sofija graduated with a major in Environmental Design and minors in Spanish and Creative Technology Design.
Her love for the mountains brought her back to Crested Butte, where she joined the SHM Architects team there in the Fall of 2022. Being a part of the firm has created an amazing opportunity to further engage with and build in the community she loves, in a place very dear to her heart.
Prior to joining SHM, Sofija worked for five years with the Rene Crown Wellness Institute at CU Boulder to create and facilitate an eating disorder prevention course to local high school girls, called Mind.Body.Voice. She also engages in media production, graphic design, commissioned paintings, and singing at church.
When not in the office, Sofija can be found on a trail, in a lake, on some skis, on a bike, or running around the valley with her friends.
